Synopsis
Written by Lawal Ismail, ‘Ayanfe’, is a tragic play based on the circumstance of Ayanfe; the man who is kept away from his real existence for protection.
The play portrays the true story of Ayanfe putting on an unfortunate pedestrian. The only idea expressively sold by his father to him. Although Ayanfe lives with his father, his existence, genealogy, and paternity become a story in the dark and unravelled. No one wouldn’t have questioned such circumstances holding him to incessant monologue
The movie, THE ONLY SON, is based on the secret of actual paternity, protection, and revenge. The humble and innocent Ayanfe lived an undiscovered life and was webbed with falsehood stories by his father.
Ayanfe spent years opening up the uttermost secret as he received verbal chastisement and disdainful expressions. As much as he wished to unearth many secrets, each time he tried, he found nothing.
After all, Ayanfe was brilliant. His brilliance would never help him dig deep into a deliberate action made by his father.
Otunba, Ayanfe’s father, was wealthy and only had Ayanfe. But he chose to treat his only son with so much hate for a reason best known to him. Ayanfe would confront Otunba, but he would not flinch in providing the reason for the treatment meted out to his only son.
To Otunba, the best way to protect a chick from the evil eyes of the eagle is to keep it away from frenzies and pleasure. Meanwhile, Otunba wanted Ayanfe to live in harmony with life to manage his wealth after his demise.
But who would have shared Otunba’s approach to grooming with Ayanfe?
Ayanfe suffered mockery at the hands of his peers in the process and kept his doubt about Otunba’s paternity. But he soon discovered his position as the heir to his father’s dynasty upon the demise of Otunba. He assumed the highest rank in his late father’s numerous companies. And he was soon hypnotised by the father’s second wife out of jealousy as she had hoped to inherit all of Otunba’s wealth at his demise.
Ayanfe falls into the hands of his father’s secretary (Toyosi), who had sworn to do everything possible to see that he gets an act of revenge due to the refusal of the late Otunba to have an affair with her.
Ayanfe disregards his family arrogantly. His newfound wife manipulates him to elope upon selling his father’s properties. Toyosi claims to be pregnant for Ayanfe and brainwashes him into changing the names of his companies to their unborn child’s name. Ayanfe lost everything and narrowly escaped death through poison as the father’s lawyer was on time to rescue him. It was soon discovered that Omolade, Ayanfe’s real wife and the only daughter of a US-based Ambassador, savaged the situation as she bought over all the properties from the wicked Secretary. The major concept of the film is that many approaches hold Ayanfe to hating his father and family. Protection is synonymous with nothing. Knowing the reason for the protection, which Ayanfe never saw through the same lens, would have made him avoid the ditches he eventually entered.
The whole story is based on a goal that lacks clarity. Ayanfe had no grasp of anything about the disdainful way of parenting adopted by his father. He would have adjusted himself if had been told a bit about what lay ahead. In the same vein, his Otunba would have approached it differently. But he failed to help Ayanfe walk out of the den Otunba would have thought he was protecting Ayanfe. Unfortunately, Ayanfe graciously chose his grave and walked down it.
